Washington DC Dentist Recommends Dental Therapists for all Areas of the Country
A Washington DC dentist is considering the role of a dental therapist. Dental therapists want to improve access, provide routine dental care, such as fillings, simple extractions and the important preventative services to low-income, uninsured and under-served patients who cannot afford fees charged by private dentists or who live in rural areas where there are no dental services available.
These new dental therapists will reach their patients sometime in the year 2011 after going through extensive training and supervised practice. The idea began in New Zealand when they wanted to help their many natives who lived too far from dental services. World Health Organization (WHO) dental therapists and dental health aids now work in 42 countries around the world.
